THE TEAM
Hannah Rafkin (right) and Meg Robbins (left) directed and produced In Stitches, their first documentary film. They are no strangers to collaboration, though—after meeting in Film 101, they soon became best friends and creative partners. Both Hannah and Meg are experienced storytellers, with backgrounds in print, digital, and photo journalism. They graduated from Bowdoin College in 2017 and later founded Letter27 Productions
After a formative semester abroad in Cape Town, Hannah and Meg began plotting their return to South Africa. Late one night, the idea struck to make a documentary about the role of comedy in national politics. After extensive research, Skype calls with South African comedians, a crowdfunding campaign, and countless grant applications, they flew to Johannesburg to start shooting in September 2017.
Hannah and Meg both currently reside in Portland, Maine. Hannah is a freelance filmmaker/editor, and teaches film workshops to high school students. Meg is a reporter at the Morning Sentinel.
